Calvin Schmitke joined Krahn Engineering in 1996. He is responsible for managing the engineering services provided by Krahn's Abbotsford office. Calvin obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1982 and a Master of Science Degree (Structural Engineering) in 1984, each from the University of Alberta. His research in structural steel design was published in the Structural Stability Research Council Proceedings and the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering.
Prior to joining Krahn Engineering, Calvin gained experience designing buildings and communication structures in the Toronto area while working for Dowdell Pal Ellis & Associates and Morrison Hershfield Ltd.
Calvin is a Registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia and Ontario.

David Krahn president of Krahn Engineering, obtained a degree in structural engineering in 1981 from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Prior to this, he graduated with honours from the British Columbia Institute of Technology with a diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering in 1978.
Prior to formally studying engineering, David gained experience in construction by working as a contract framer and as a contractor on various types of projects. He then worked as an engineering technician at Omega & Associates Engineering Ltd. Before establishing Krahn Engineering in 1984, Dave gained experience as a design engineer with Paul Loewen & Associates Ltd.
David is a Registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

Doug Birch joined Krahn Engineering in 1987 and is now a principal in the firm and provides structural engineering services to our clients through our Burnaby office. Doug graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1985 with a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in structural engineering.
Prior to joining Krahn Engineering, Doug was employed by Stone & Webster Engineering in Toronto, Ontario. There he was involved in the structural design of nuclear power plants and structural steel design for Stelco in Hamilton, Ontario.
Doug is a Registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia and Ontario. He is a member of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers and is a past Vice President of the Vancouver Chapter of the American Concrete Institute.

Glenn Froese joined Krahn Engineering in 1988 moving here from Ontario.
Glenn gained experience over the years in industrial building designed both with project coordination and drafting design.
After 12 years in the company, Glenn left to gain experience both as a site supervisor and building manager. Glenn has now returned to Krahn Engineering to continue with building design and project management overseeing the building design aspect of the company.

Kurt Haugseng graduated in 1989 from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay Ontario, with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Honours). Prior to this, Kurt graduated with honours from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1983. Before obtaining his engineering degree, Kurt worked in construction both as an estimator and a carpenter. He also gained experience in bridge construction and inspections with the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Highways and the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
Kurt joined Krahn Engineering as a structural design engineer in 1989. He has been the structural designer of numerous projects including office buildings, schools, churches, warehouses, apartment buildings, townhouses and specialty structures.
Kurt is a Registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia.

Mark Nikkel graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in 1991. Following this, he worked for Krahn Engineering until 1995 when he joined Stanley Associates Engineering. He rejoined Krahn Engineering in 1997.
As a project engineer Mark has been responsible for the structural design and field review of numerous projects. His experience encompasses the structural design of industrial, multi-residential and institutional buildings, bridges and agricultural structures, as well as municipal projects including water treatment plants, reservoirs and pump-stations. He has a thorough understanding of concrete, tilt-up, structural steel, masonry and timber structural systems.
Mark is a Registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia.

Walid Salman earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the American University of Beirut in 1983. After this, he worked for four years as a field engineer in the construction of petrochemical and industrial facilities. He subsequently completed his graduate studies at the University of Toronto earning a Master of Applied Science Degree in Structural Engineering in 1990 and a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering in 1994. Walid’s research work has been published in the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, The Structural Stability Research Council Proceedings of the International Conference on the Behavior of Offshore Structures.
Prior to joining Krahn Engineering in 1998, Walid worked as a structural engineer with Morrison Hersfield in Toronto, Ontario and URS Greiner in Washington, DC. Upon joining Krahn Engineering, Walid developed the firm's tilt-up panel lifting and bracing software.
Walid is a Registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia, Ontario and the state of Washington.
